Because it’s just about the best thing ever.

Wasn’t that awesome?? 😀 And you see, if you’re still reading this post (or if you started reading it in the first place), it’s probably because you thought that seeing a walrus doing leg lifts was so out of the ordinary that you just had to see it for yourself.
And that’s what you want your branding to be like.
You can get away with doing the bare minimum, keeping a low profile, and doing things the way they’ve always been done, but why would you want to? You’ll maximize your marketing efforts if you have a unique brand that really stands out and is a true reflection of your personality.
This whole dinosaur and mustache and narwhal thing? That’s who I really am. It’s not just some put-on marketing tactic.
You want your branding to reflect your personality, because there is nothing more unique than that. You don’t have to be off-the-wall to have successful branding, just be true to yourself and make decisions based on what feels right for you. If you’re compassionate and caring, show that in your branding. Make every word and design and graphic choice reflect your brand, reflect you.
And if you’re weird and rebellious and geeky? Own it. Nothing makes your business stand out more than being true to yourself and doing things the way you want to. So if you don’t really want to blog or you want to only offer one product or you don’t want to do the traditional “online marketing” thing, then DO IT. Own it.
This is your business, and your life, and you make the rules. You didn’t go into business for yourself to live by someone else’s rulebook, so whatever feels right for you, do it.
Whether it’s having a phone call with every potential customer or sending out daily inspiration or posting walrus videos on your blog, do your branding in accordance with what you like and what you want to do, regardless of what everyone else is doing or what you’re “supposed” to be doing, and you’ll never go wrong.
