What it’s like to DIY a website (as told by GIFs)

At first it’s really exciting.  Because you’re like,

YEAH I’M DOING THIS ALL ON MY OWN AND I’M GOING TO SAVE SO MUCH MONEY AND BE SO AWESOME AND MY MOM WILL BE SO PROUD OF ME!!
diy1
So you start creeping around for free tutorials online.
diy2
Youtube looks good.  And you start watching
…and watching
…and watching
diy3
Wow this is frustrating.
AND OH MY GOD WHERE DID I PUT MY PANTS BECAUSE I HAVEN’T LEFT MY HOUSE FOR THE LAST WEEK WHOA.

Needless to say, you got sucked into the vortex of DIY videos… for hours.. days.. weeks.
diy5
Ok, so you’ve watched all these videos.
But your website?
Nope, it doesn’t exist yet.
diy6
I just need to learn a little more, you say.  And then I can make the website of my dreams!
So you keep searching the interwebz for inspiration and information.  You can never have enough information, right??
diy7
Weeks pass by.
Months.
It’s been six months since you said you’d start making your website.
diy8
And womp, womp, you still don’t have one.
diy9
OK!  You say.  THIS TIME I’M SRS BUSINESS!
diy10
So you buckle down.  Because it’s time to MAKE. THINGS. HAPPEN.
diy11
You finally decide on WordPress.
And you finally choose a host.
And you finally do that domain thingie.
diy13
AND NOW BOOM YOU JUST INSTALLED WORDPRESS.
diy12
Time for a victory dance!
diy14
Ok, what to do now?  We have an empty website and it’s been almost a year.
diy15
I NEED A LOGO, you say.  So you look up tutorials of how to make a logo.  But it turns into a long-winded argument about art theory.
MAYBE I WILL JUST GET A NICE THEME, you think.
So you start looking up themes.
diy17
HOLY BATMAN THERE ARE A LOT OF THEMES!
How am I supposed to choose one??
diy16
So then you get kind of OvERwHeLmmEDD!!
diy18
AHHH TOO MANY THEMES MY BRAIN HURTS I CANNOT POSSIBLY PICK JUST ONE
diy19
So you ask your entrepreneur friends.  And with their help, you finally narrow it down to the best one.
OK NOW I HAVE TO INSTALL IT!
So you do that.  NOW I HAVE TO CUSTOMIZE IT.
HOW THE HECK DO I DO THAT? you ask.
diy20
So you look up more tutorials.  And more videos.  And download more ebooks.  And read more blog posts.
AHHHHHHHH I CAN’T DO THIS.
diy21
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING AND MY BRAIN FEELS LESS THAN ADEQUATE RIGHT NOW
So then you run away on your dinosaur to a land where websites don’t exist and you never have to look at this DIY stuff ever again, amen.
diy22
So you see.  All of this could have been avoided if you had just spent 15 minutes switching to Geico.  Um, I mean signing up for our Website Bootcamp (I see what I did there ;)).  You could have our hand holding and step-by-step guidance and support on exactly what you need to DIY your WordPress website, and none of the stuff you don’t.  We have a set curriculum so you can follow along, video by video, and by the end of the three weeks you’ll have a lovely functioning website.  And your brain won’t hurt!
diy23
Make a website your mother would be proud of.
